Middle School Spanish

I am Sister Carol, a Franciscan sister, which means that I work to follow the values and lifestyle of St.Francis of Assisi.  I started my professional “journey” as a grade school teacher in Milwaukee’s inner city.  I obtained a Masters degree in Franciscan studies at St. Bonaventure in New York.  In 1990 I went to Mexico to study Spanish .  I then worked on the El Paso/Mexico border.  I found myself missing the Midwest.  From El Paso, I worked in Iowa for the next 30 years.   For 25 of those years, I worked in Shelters—homeless and domestic violence. The past 6 years, I have been semi-retired—I worked as the dishwasher at St. Anthony’s grade school in Dubuque. My roommate, Sr. Charla, and I felt it was time to move closer to our center, Milwaukee.  In June, we moved to Sheboygan.  We are excited to live in this city!   I feel I have returned to my roots.  TS Elliot says: “We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all exploring will be to arrive where we started and to know the place for the first time.”  So, I am back in grade school and it feels so right.  I will treasure the sounds of laughter and joy from the children. Along with the daily joy I get from my young Golden Retriever, Annie.
